Dr. Xu currently is an associate professor of biochemistry and the Vice Dean of Panjin Institute of Industrial Technology (PITI) at Dalian University of Technology (DUT), China. He completed his B.S. degree (2002) and Ph.D. degree (2008) in Biochemical Engineering at DUT supervised by Profs. Qing Yang and Lijia An. His doctoral thesis studied on a thrombin-like enzyme gloshedobin from the venom of snake Gloydius shedaoensis. He also studied biotransformation and protein purification using the barker’s yeast (2005) supervised by Professor Jan-Christer Janson at Uppsala Universitet Biomedicinsk Centrum, Sweden. From 2009 to 2014, Dr. Xu carried out his postdoctoral research work on mammalian selenoproteins supervised by Prof. Elias S.J. Arnér at Karolinska Institutet, Sweden. Since 2015, Dr. Xu started his independent research career at Panjin Campus of DUT, mainly focusing on selenium biochemistry and its biotechnological application. Up to date, Dr. Xu has published 30+ peer-reviewed research papers and two of them received F1000Prime recommendation.
