Research Experience:
Dr Shi’s main research interest is with materials processing, properties and modelling. His research experiences covers metal forming technologies, powder metallurgy, surface engineering, materials characterisation and modelling, and process simulation. His current research focuses on creep age forming of large aluminium alloy panels for aeronautical and high speed train applications, development of direct powder forging process, and microstructural control for aluminium die forging. His previous projects include warm aluminium forming technology (WAFT), process modelling for tomorrow’s engines (PROMOTE), centrifugal spray deposition (CSD) of nickel superalloy, slurry powder processing and modelling of Ti/SiCf composites, continuous wire casting, growth of nickel thin films, electron beam surface engineering for wear and corrosion protection, and thermal spraying coating.
