Research Experience:
Irena Kostova is a full Professor in the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, Medical University in Sofia, Bulgaria, where has been teaching since 1994 to present. Received her B.Sc and M.Sc in chemistry with the highest grade from Russian University of Chemical Technology “D.I. Mendeleev”, Moscow, Russia. After graduation, she has been appointed as a research scientist and senior researcher at Scientific Research Centre of Ministry of Environmental of the Republic of Bulgaria. Graduated her second specialization “Theoretical bases of medical chemistry” in Medical University-Sofia. Her Ph.D and D.Sc Theses in Chemistry have been awarded by Medical University-Sofia. Established, promoted and maintains relationships with many European Universities, including Institut für Physikalische Chemie, Würzburg, Germany; Sapienza University, Rome, Italy; Safarik University, Kosice, Slovakia; Universitatea Babeş-Bolyai, Cluj-Napoca, Romania; Medizinische Universität Wien, Austria; Università degli Studi Firenze, Italy; Complutense University, Madrid, Spain etc. through joint research projects and European programs. She has led several national and international projects. Delivered lectures and took courses at various institutions in Europe and India. She has been a member of advisory and organizing committees of many international conferences.
Prof. Kostova has been an Editor of Metal-Based Drugs; Asian Chemistry Letters; International Journal of Drug Discovery; International Journal of Current Chemistry; Recent Patent Reviews on Anti–Cancer Drug Discovery and a Member of the Editorial and Advisory Boards of Anti-Cancer Agents in Medicinal Chemistry; World Journal of Virology; Indian Journal of Pure and Applied Physics; The Open Cancer Journal; Recent Patents on Anti-Infective Drug Discovery; Infection & Drug Resistance; British Journal of Medicine and Medical Research; International Journal of Chemistry; International Journal of Environmental Sciences; Dataset Papers in Chemistry; Makara of Technology Series, Peertechz Journal of Medicinal Chemistry and Research. Prof. Kostova has been a Guest Editor of several special issues for international journals and a Section Editor of “Encyclopedia oF Metalloproteins” (Springer-Verlag GmbH).
